Dr. Jan Vinjé Ph.D. leads the National Calicivirus Laboratory in the Division of Viral Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA, US. Dr. Vinjé received his Ph.D. at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands and completed his postdoctoral training at UNC Chapel Hill, NC, US. Dr. Vinjé joined CDC in 2006 and directs its norovirus laboratory program, which includes CaliciNet, a national norovirus strain surveillance network of more than 35 local and state public health and food regulatory agency laboratories. He serves on several scientific advisory committees and is member of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses study groups on Caliciviridae and Astroviridae. Recently he initiated a global pediatric norovirus surveillance network (NoroSurv) to monitor genotype trends of norovirus gastroenteritis in hospitalized children with. Dr. Vinjé has published over 245 peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters. His research interests encompass all aspects of gastrointestinal disease caused by caliciviruses, including virus detection, molecular epidemiology, immunity, role of host factors, as well as prevention and targeted control measures.
